Why Jets General Manager, Mike Tannenbaum, and Head Coach, Rex Ryan Signed their Pink Slips

Tim Tebow has arrived in New York. The spectacle of Tebowmania has just begun. As the newest member of the New York Jets, the 2nd string quarterback held a press conference two days ago. That unprecedented event drew a crowd of media so large that they took up more space than the Jets regular press area. Just a little hint at what's to come. Now that Tebow's here, what's next? What will the Jets, and Tim Tebow do on the field? Well that's up in the air right now, who knows how the season will go. But I believe this acquisition will mark the end of the Rex Ryan era.
Mike Tannebaum and Rex Ryan are human. They want to keep their jobs. I understand that. But what I can't seem to understand is who advised the two that this move would result in anything but a catastrophe. Ryan has said more than enough times that Mark Sanchez is his quarterback. So if that's true, why bring in Tim Tebow? "Your quarterback's" role just diminish a great deal. Let's do the math.
If Rex Ryan is serious about his desire to use the wildcat formation more, that's more time taken away from Mark Sanchez under center. In fact, Sanchez won't even be on the field since the Jets went out and got a Quarterback to run the wildcat system. So what does that leave the Jets with? An offensive attack that includes two quarterbacks. Mark Sanchez will be sharing the Quarterback role. Is this the Playoff plan that Rex Ryan envisions? If so, I don't see it working for various reasons.
When Mark Sanchez throws two incompletions and the Jets go three and out, what will the fans chant? Last year, all the fans could do was boo. This year, they can scream at the top of their lungs for Tim Tebow. Big problem. What about the locker room? When Sanchez falls into a little slump and Tebow succeeds for a game, who will the players go to now? The locker room would be split in half. You thought last year was bad? This year may be even worse. The team's morale will just be shot and everybody will be on edge. But even pushing the locker room turmoil aside, how will the Jets even run a successful offense with Tim Tebow?
From Tebow's mechanics, to his decision-making the game could just slip away. Tebow is listed as a Quarterback. But most times, Tebow plays like a converted running back that played Quarterback in high school. He's not your prototypical pocket passer, something that the Jets need to win, something that they already have. The Jets offense wasn't built around a scrambling Quarterback. The offense was built around a solid pocket passer. Who knows what's gonna happen now.
The Jets already had a tough road ahead this season. Their cross-town rival just won the Super Bowl, they have plenty of holes to fill on both sides of the ball, and they had chemistry problems. Now that Tim Tebow has arrived, that road has gotten tougher. Tim Tebow is a distraction. Don't get me wrong, I respect him for what he does, and the person that he is. But I don't think he'll benefit the Jets by being on their roster every Sunday. I don't see Tim Tebow and the Jets succeeding, when he's under center, or even two feet behind. The Jets team that you see right now, may never recover from this bad decision, and the front office will take a hit as well.
